Meanwhile, Ohio House Speaker William Batchelder says a hacker is to blame for tweets that made it appear he supported liberal causes.
Hacking is nothing new, but it's happening more and more often on social-networking sites, sites that are used daily by millions of people.
These days, it's hard to go a day where you don't hear about someone's Twitter or Facebook page getting hacked.
The reality is, though, is it happens more often than headlines can capture.
"I've definitely seen some people getting hacked," says Chris Mannella, an OSU freshman who is on Facebook and Twitter. "I, personally, have never been hacked myself, but until they get a hold of your personal information that's really when you start to worry about it.”Anthony weiner Acount twitter
He isn't concerned about someone hacking into his Facebook or Twitter account.
"You know, if there's a weird link, you know not to click on it," he says. "It's all about being smart and being safe."
FBI Special Agent Harry Trombitas says more often than not when it comes to hacking cases, people actually allow themselves to be victimized.
"We're just our own worst enemies," he says.
Most of the time, he says your typical phishing scheme is to blame. It starts with an email saying there's an issue with your account. It then tells you to click on a link provided.
Anthony weiner"It takes them to a website that looks just like the real Facebook or Twitter site, and they feel very comfortable in entering their username and password, and really what they're doing is providing that information directly to the bad guys," says Trombitas.
By then, it's too late.
"Be savvy. Don’t respond to these things [emails], and in the vast majority of cases you're going to be fine," he says.
Trombitas says if you think you've been hacked, first change your password and then file a complaint with the social networking site.
If you believe personal information has been taken or money has been stolen, you should call your local law enforcement agency or contact the Ohio Attorney General's office.
